A gentle, buzzing, no-pressure online community where we celebrate Progress Over Perfection.
Whether you’re an EPP pro, an appliqué lover, or a hand-quilter, if it’s stitched by hand, you belong here. Come gather, swap tips, and share stories with friends.
You’ve finally carved out a little time for your WIP pile, and while you’re enjoying every stitch, it’d be lovely to have some company.
You find yourself scrolling Instagram and wondering how on earth everyone else’s hexies look so flawless, and how on earth they’ve managed to finish three quilts this month!
You love your local monthly quilting group but you can’t always make it. And, the occasional retreat is fantastic, but they’re definitely not a weekly treat.
Your family nods very politely when you show them your latest block or that gorgeous new fabric, but bless them, they just don’t "get" it like a fellow stitcher does.
You wish you could ask a quick (or tricky) question, or even just share a "look at this!" moment, without having to trawl through busy, noisy Facebook groups.
You’re craving a space where you feel inspired, not intimidated. No pressure to have a perfect feed - just real women, real projects, and a whole lot of kindness.

Picture this…
It’s a quiet afternoon. You pop the kettle on, pull out your project basket, find your favourite comfy spot, and settle down. One click, and you’re in.
Friendly faces wave hello. Someone is showing off a gorgeous EPP fussy cut block, someone else is asking whether glue basting is cheating (it’s not, by the way!), and another has just shared her latest fabric haul. You hold up your latest batch of basted hexies for your quilt, and the whole group cheers you on.
Two hours later, you might not have joined quite as many hexies as you would have on your own, but you’ve had a proper laugh, picked up a handy new tip, and you’re already looking forward to next time.
From stitching alone → to stitching alongside friends who finally get it.
From comparing yourself online → to celebrating progress, not perfection.
From "I’ll make time one day" → to regular, protected time that’s just for you.
From muddling through a niggle → to a group of kind, helpful stitchers ready to share a tip

Hello, I’m Sarah - the person behind Duck Egg Threads.
My path to this community didn’t start with a big plan; it started in my spare bedroom. I was running a busy online shop and slowly losing the very thing that brought me to EPP in the first place: the simple love of fabric, colour, and making something with my own hands.
Like you, I fell in love with English Paper Piecing for the quiet rhythm of it. There’s something magical about having a cuppa by your side, a little stack of fabric and shapes on your lap, and the steady stitching of EPP that allows you to breathe.
I know how hard it can be to find a space that feels truly supportive - a place where you aren't just another face in a crowd, but part of a genuine circle. That is exactly why I built the Hand Stitch Hive. I wanted to create a welcoming, online sanctuary where you can gather and connect, whether you’re looking for a bit of extra dedicated stitching time or just craving the company of some friendly faces.
It’s a space where you don't need a perfect studio or a lightning-fast finish to belong. When you join me for a session, you won't find a room full of people racing to finish their projects. You’ll find a quiet corner of the internet where we sit, we stitch, and we chat about life’s little hurdles or the beautiful fabric in front of us. It’s my way of holding space for you, to remind you that your pace is the perfect pace, and that your progress, no matter how small, is exactly enough.
Gather. Stitch. Belong.
Welcome to your sunlit corner of the stitching world.
A gentle, low-pressure online community where we swap tips, share stories, and celebrate Progress Over Perfection.
If it’s stitched by hand, you belong here. I’ve saved a seat at the table just for you.

A relaxed, welcoming space to stitch, chat, and swap tips. It’s just like your favourite local group, only you can attend in your slippers (or your PJs, we won’t tell!).
We host sessions at different days and times each week so you can easily find one that fits your schedule.
EPP is our first love, but if it’s stitched by hand, you belong here. Whether you’re into appliqué, hand quilting, or embroidery, you’re in the right place. We just ask for no sewing machines (unless you’re on mute!) so we can all talk freely and enjoy the company.

This is your time, and there is absolutely no pressure.
Camera on or off? It’s up to you. Want to chat away or just sit, listen, and stitch?
You are more than welcome. Drop in for half an hour or stay for the full two - come exactly as you are.

The chatter doesn’t have to stop when the Zoom session ends! You’ll get access to our private, free forum, The Wobbly Stitch Club – pop in to share your progress, ask questions, say hello, or just show off your latest fabric haul between sessions.
It’s just £5 per session, pay-as-you-go. There’s no membership, no subscription, and no long-term commitment. You only pay for the sessions you can actually make.
Ready to learn something new? I’ll soon be adding monthly themed 1 hour sessions for just £5 each. These are designed to help you brush up on your skills, solve those frustrating "niggles," and try new techniques in a fun, relaxed, and problem-solving environment.
I'm currently testing a mix of days and times to see what suits everyone best. From mornings and afternoons to evenings, I’m even trialling a few weekend slots to make sure there’s a time that fits your life.
Take a look at the upcoming dates, and if you’re struggling to find a slot that works, do get in touch. I’ll do my very best to add something that does!
Please note: All times are listed in UK time.

Love hand stitching whether it’s EPP, appliqué, hand quilting, or embroidery but wish it felt a little more social.
Know your way around a needle and thread but still love picking up new tips along the way.
Are craving a bit of community, whether you’ve missed your local group sessions or just haven’t found the right one nearby.
Want regular, protected time just for you, without any pressure to be more than "good enough."
Believe a wobbly stitch is a stitch worth celebrating (because we certainly do!).
Are looking for a formal, fast-paced class with a strict curriculum to follow.
Find it hard to let go of the need for perfection (though we’d love to gently help you change your mind on that one!).
I’ve hosted similar Sit & Sew sessions before, and I’m so happy to share this lovely feedback from one of my regular stitchers.
“My stitch session with Duck Egg Threads was absolutely brilliant. It is a great way to spend a morning - stitching and nattering. Thank you for being the perfect host."
